Hideo Kojima’s Closet Picks (Criterion Collection video)

 Check out this video of Hideo Kojima's recommendations of Japanese films from the 1950s and '60s. As you may already know, Hideo Kojima is the creator of the Metal Gear Solid series of video games, along with other classic games. If you've played his games, you can tell he is a movie buff. I have heard of the movies he recommends in this video, but I have not been able to watch them yet. His list strengthens my resolve to finally watch those movies!

 Criterion releases a wide variety of classic, artistic, and genre films in the highest quality possible. They even have martial arts movies in their collection! Here is where you can check out and buy what they have, and here is their YouTube channel.

Sadako DX - Movie Trailer

 Check out the trailer for Sadako DX, the latest movie in the Ring/Ringu saga. Here is the synopsis:

People who watch a cursed video suddenly die. These deaths take place all over Japan. Ayaka Ichijo is an extremely smart graduate student with an IQ of 200. Her younger sister happens to watch the cursed video for fun. Ayaka Ichijo tries to reveal the mystery of the cursed video.

Sadako DX comes out October 28, 2022 in Japan. We shall see if it gets an international release, though. I hope this movie is good, as I quite liked the 1998 Ring/Ringu movie.

 

Shin Kamen Rider Teaser Trailer

 Three days late to the party, but here is the latest teaser trailer for Shin Kamen Rider, a reboot movie being released on the 50th anniversary of the original Kamen Rider TV show. Kamen Rider is a classic, long-running tokusatsu series (of TV shows, movies, and manga) about a masked insect-inspired superhero who rides a cool motorcycle and fights kaijin (monstrous super villains). Hideaki Anno is the writer and director of this movie, which means he's worked on Shin Godzilla, Shin Ultraman, and Shin Kamen Rider so far. He is really working on some classic franchises! This looks like it's going to rock, so I can't wait to see this one!

Shenmue The Animation (2022) - Official Trailer

 Check out the trailer for Shenmue The Animation, premiering on Toonami/adult swim on February 5, 2022! This anime is based on the classic Sega Dreamcast game. In the game, Ryo trains to become the strongest martial artist in order to defeat the person who killed his father. I never got to play this game, but my brother played Shenmue and its sequel on the Dreamcast back in the day. I was thinking of watching a playthrough of the games on YouTube next, so watching those along with the anime will be pretty interesting!

 

Nobody Wants To Subtitle This Anime || A Heart Cocktail Review/Doc By kenny lauderdale

 Here is a fascinating video on the somewhat obscure anime series Heart Cocktail, done by the great kenny lauderdale. He goes into what the anime is about, and the creative force behind it, Seizo Watase. Even though it may have been an anime that has been lost to time, it still influenced the current artists in Japan. Check out the video, kenny explains everything so much better than I can. I really want to watch this series (with subtitles) some day. Still, I can at least enjoy it on a visual and aural level on YouTube. The art style is just so nice to look at. It has nice music in it, too! We shall see if this ever gets subtitled, whether officially or by fans...
