[Multimedia Monday] April 3, 2023

I went out Saturday, in search of Blu-Rays... or anything interesting that I would like. Being broke, as I often am, the price would have to be very low for me to actually buy anything. Luckily, I went to Dollar Tree, and luckily again, they had some Blu-Rays there for a dollar each. It turned out that the Blu-Rays I bought were actually fifty cents each, so I really lucked out! I've heard of both of these movies, so I took a chance on them! Read on for a synopsis of each film...

Athena: Goddess Of War (2010) is a spinoff of the Iris Korean drama that came out in 2009. Here is the synopsis:

Award-winning actress Soo Ae (The Sword with No Name) captivates and conspires in Athena: Goddess of War, an exhilarating new spy thriller loaded with international intrigue and dangerous desire. Beautiful double-agent Yoon Hye-in is caught in the middle of a game of nuclear espionage – and torn between two very different men. One heroically fights beside her on the anti-terror taskforce known as NTS. The other ruthlessly controls Athena, the extremist organization NTS is trying to stop. As Yoon Hye-in struggles to choose between them, growing suspicions from all sides put her life on the line. Can she keep her double-life hidden? How long can she play both sides of the law – and two powerful men – before her cover is violently compromised? The countdown to an explosive stand-off begins now!

I'll be reviewing this movie as soon as I get a new Blu-Ray player!

Journey To The West: Conquering The Demons (2013) is a movie based on the classic 16th century Chinese novel Journey To The West (written by Wu Cheng'en), and was co-written and co-directed by Stephen Chow. Here is the synopsis:

In a world plagued by demons who cause great human suffering, young demon hunter Xuan Zang risks his all to conquer a water demon, a pig demon and the demon of all demons, Sun Wukong. Adhering to his firm belief in giving of one’s self for the greater cause, he embraces the demons as his disciples. However, in order to atone for their own sins and save the common people, the four of them must embark on a journey to the West that’s full of challenges.

I'll be reviewing this one as soon as I get a new Blu-Ray player, so watch out for that!

[Multimedia Monday] Christmas Haul

It was Christmas yesterday, and I actually got a gift this year (that I didn't buy for myself)! I got a He-Man action figure from my sister! Check this bad boy out:

The rush of nostalgia I felt when I saw this!

I'm going to be needing the rest of those action figures, thank you very much.

He-Man deserves his close up:

Forty years later and He-Man is still looking good! Somehow he looks better!

I was not expecting this at all! When I first uncovered it, I really wanted to open it up and play with it! I refrained, and I've got it displayed next to my Power Rangers Funko Pops.

I loved He-Man and the Masters Of The Universe when I was younger. My brother and I had a bunch of the action figures, along with Snake Mountain (Skeletor's hideout). We never had a He-Man action figure, though, just Prince Adam (who we used as He-Man anyways).

I had no idea they were releasing updated versions of classic Masters of The Universe figures. This figure looks so awesome! It does seem slightly smaller than the original figures (though looking it up, it seems to be the same size as the original figures), and He-Man has joints on his arms and legs (which the originals did not have). That is not a problem or a criticism of the figure; I think it is beautiful! I like this figure a lot! I want to play with it! I need Skeletor now!

[Multimedia Monday] November 14th Haul

Welcome to the first Multimedia Monday™! On Mondays I will show the latest media I've bought, and give my thoughts about them. I am hoping to do unboxings in the future, so look out for that! Truthfully, I'm broke right now, so I cannot get all those awesome Hong Kong Blu-Rays that are coming out, but trust me, they are on the list! Since I am broke right now, this won't be a weekly post. When I get more financially secure, Multimedia Monday™ will become a weekly event!

This week's haul all came from Dollar Tree. That's right, everything I bought was a dollar each. Three bucks for two Blu-Rays and a calendar! Not a bad deal at all!

Dinner For Schmucks is a pretty good comedy, though it's not my favorite Steve Carell or Paul Rudd movie. I already had this on DVD, but I decided to upgrade to Blu-Ray. I mean, it only cost a dollar! Unfortunately, my Blu-Ray player malfunctioned and no longer works, so I couldn't bask in the HD glory. (My Blu-Ray player malfunctioning ruined my plans for this month's reviews, by the way.)

I was really disappointed in my Spooky Movie Marathon© this year, so I have decided I need to look for more horror movies to buy to review. There just wasn't enough variety in what I was watching on streaming sites. It also didn't help that I didn't have enough time to watch movies or to write reviews for the ones I could watch. Anyways, I bought The Boy. Haven't really heard much about this movie. Not sure if it's good, bad, or just average. I guess we'll see next October.

I bought a Power Rangers: Dino Fury 2023 calendar! I am a huge Power Rangers fan, if you didn't know. Since Power Rangers: Dino Fury is being shown exclusively on Netflix, I haven't been able to keep up with the latest season. I liked the first part of the season that was shown on Nickelodeon, though! I'm looking forward to the 30th Anniversary season with all those Rangers coming back. Hopefully that'll be released on Blu-Ray so I can watch it that way!

That was the first Multimedia Monday™! Hope you enjoyed it! As time goes on, I'll hopefully be getting more Asian cinema-related things that I can show you all.

The Shadow's Edge (2025) - Movie Trailer
