THE OLD WOMAN WITH THE KNIFE (2025) - Official Trailer

Here is the trailer for the South Korean action thriller, The Old Woman With The Knife (also known as Pa-gwa) (2025). Here is the synopsis:

Aging assassin Hornclaw has seen it all, but she never expected to mentor a reckless rookie like Bullfight. As their unlikely bond deepens, cracks form in the underworld they navigate together. When Hornclaw discovers someone wants her dead, she’s thrust into a deadly game of deception. With enemies closing in and trust in short supply, survival means staying sharp—both blade and mind.

The Old Woman With The Knife is based on the book (with the same name) written by Gu Byeong-mo. It was directed by Min Kyu-dong, and stars Lee Hye-young, Kim Sung-cheol, Yeon Woo-jin, and Kim Mu-yeol.

This movie looks very interesting to me! Really can't wait to see this one! The Old Woman With The Knife comes out in movie theaters in the United States on May 16, 2025!

Superman (2025) - Official Teaser Trailer

It's finally here! The teaser trailer for Superman, directed by James Gunn, has been released. If you haven't been following the news, Superman is the first movie in the DC Universe (DCU). Here is the current synopsis:

Superman embarks on a journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent.

After watching this teaser multiple times today, I am very optimistic about it. I hope it is amazing, and shows what's so great about Superman (it's not just his super powers). As much as I loved the Zack Snyder DC movies, there were things in them I didn't necessarily agree with. It's way too early to say, but this new movie may show the hope, optimism, and selflessness that Superman represents more overtly. Also, so cool to see Hawkgirl, Mr. Terrific, and Guy Gardner (Green Lantern) in live action!

Superman comes out July 11, 2025. I will be there!

[Fight Scene Friday] 港風無敵 HONG KONG STYLE FOREVER (1985)

On this Fight Scene Friday™, we have the latest short film from the Andy Long Stunt team! Here is the synopsis:

Two Kung Fu film fans, Andy and Sefa, have travelled to Hong Kong to visit the birthplace of Martial Arts Films. They have managed to catch up with HK stuntman Rodney Wong on one of his last nights before moving forever to Australia. Rodney has lost fate in the future of HK action cinema but Andy & Sefa will try to convince him how important it is for the young generation of HK Stuntmen to carry on the legacy of Martial Arts films made in Hong Kong.

This is a nice tribute/homage to 80s Hong Kong action movies, and the music from Above The Law/Righting Wrongs (1986) is a nice touch, too! Check it out! It is really good to see there are people out there trying to keep the 80s Hong Kong fight choreography style alive.

[Fight Scene Friday] Yuen Biao in Righting Wrongs - Parking Lot Scene

It's Yuen Biao's birthday on this Fight Scene Friday™, so let's watch a classic scene from Above The Law/Righting Wrongs (1986)! I love this movie, and I highly recommend watching it! It's one of Yuen Biao's best, if not the best, of his movies. Also, the director of the movie shows up at the end of this clip as the cop. That is Corey Yuen, fellow Peking Opera actor, who studied with Yuen Biao, Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung, Yuen Wah, etc. and became a great choreographer and director himself.

Here is the synopsis from the Description: "Hilarious action-comedy playground fight inspired by the signature Jackie Chan style. Omar Zaki is being pursued because of a special briefcase he has. Can he use his fighting skills to prevent the briefcase from being captured?"

The choreography is really good in this, and they captured the spirit of a Jackie Chan fight scene really well. Check it out, you won't regret it!

Designing the 80s - #1: Emerging Art Forms (YouTube Video)

Here is a video from strafefox, who does mini documentaries on video games mainly, but has branched out into other subjects. This video is about emerging art styles/forms in the 1980s. Here is the description:

Designing the 80s, a 6-part mini series exploring design within media and entertainment. Placing iconic productions in film, gaming and music in context to the digital revolution and contemporary visual trends. Each pair of episode will cover a different era of the decade. This first episode will be the introduction of the rising art-forms at the dawn of the 80s: computer graphics expanding into media and entertainment and the phenomenon of the music video which ties into events happening in pop-culture and design.

This is a well-made video that deserves more views. Check out strafefox's YouTube channel right here to see his other videos on the development of 80s and 90s video games!

Hideo Kojima’s Closet Picks (Criterion Collection video)

Check out this video of Hideo Kojima's recommendations of Japanese films from the 1950s and '60s. As you may already know, Hideo Kojima is the creator of the Metal Gear Solid series of video games, along with other classic games. If you've played his games, you can tell he is a movie buff. I have heard of the movies he recommends in this video, but I have not been able to watch them yet. His list strengthens my resolve to finally watch those movies!

Criterion releases a wide variety of classic, artistic, and genre films in the highest quality possible. They even have martial arts movies in their collection! Here is where you can check out and buy what they have, and here is their YouTube channel.
